Dr. Thukkaram is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care, and Obesity Medicine. She has over 15 years of experience and has been in practice in Metuchen since 2003. She is an attending physician at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ since 2002.

Dr. Thukkaram was born and raised in Chennai, India. Her lifelong yearning to be a physician was fulfilled at Madras Medical College followed by an Internal Medicine Residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ.

As a young physician working with Haven Hospice at JFK, she realized her passion for palliative care and obtained board certification in Hospice and Palliative Care. She currently works closely with JFK Haven Hospice as the acting Director. She also serves on the Bioethics Committee at JFK Hospital.

She was the recipient of the The Value of Women in Our Community Award by the Peace Islands Institute in 2016 for her work in hospice and palliative care.

Over the years, the frustration with chronic disease and the approach that focused on adding more medications without addressing the root of problem, led her to pursue a board certification in Obesity Medicine.

Her passion remains in preventive medicine, hospice and palliative care, and obesity medicine, with special interests in diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, asthma, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, preventive medicine, and women's health.
